Jammu. More than 8,600 pilgrims amid major security circles left for the Bhagwati Nagar base camp in Jammu early Monday for the annual Amarnath pilgrimage. Officials gave information. More than 70,000 pilgrims have so far appeared in the holy cave located at an altitude of 3,880 meters in the 38 -day Amarnath Yatra, which started from Pahalgam in Anantnag district and Baltal in Ganderbal district.
Officials said the sixth batch of 8,605 pilgrims included 6,486 males, 1,826 women, 42 children and 251 sage-bodies. The batch rode in 372 vehicles and left for two base camps in Kashmir from Bhagwati Nagar base camp in Jammu am amidst tight security arrangements at 3:30 pm on Sunday and at 4.25 am on Monday.
He said that the first convoy of 3,486 pilgrims out of 166 vehicles left in Ganderbal district (14 km) small but steep climbing Baltal route, after which the second convoy of 5,119 pilgrims out of 206 vehicles left for the 48 km long traditional Pahalgam route in Anantnag district. It was the biggest batch of pilgrims since Wednesday.
