The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is bringing back from the US after extradition to alleged economic offender Monica Kapoor. Officials gave this information on Wednesday.
Officials said that Kapoor was absconding for more than 25 years. He said that the central agency has taken Kapoor into custody in the US and is being brought to India by American Airlines aircraft, which can reach India on Wednesday night.
The ‘United States District for the Eastern District of New York’ approved the extradition of camphor under the bilateral extradition treaty between India and the US.
The Foreign Minister rejected Kapoor’s claim that he would be harassed and issued a surrender warrant against him. Kapoor moved to America in 1999 after alleged fraud. In this case of fraud, he along with his two brothers made fake documents for the jewelery business. These documents were allegedly used to get licenses from the Government of India to obtain a license to free duty -free imports.
The alleged fraud caused a loss of more than US $ 6,79,000.
Officials said that India had approached the US in October 2010 demanding the extradition of Kapoor as per the extradition treaty between the two countries.
