New Delhi. Former Bihar Chief Minister and RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav may have difficulty. The Jharkhand High Court has accepted the CBI’s petition seeking to increase Lalu Yadav’s sentence in the fodder scam case. The lower court sentenced Lalu Prasad to three and a half years while the CBI is demanding him a maximum sentence. In the case of illegal withdrawal of Rs 89 lakh from Deoghar treasury, the CBI has also raised the demand to increase the sentence of Bake Julius and Sudhir Kumar Bhattacharya besides Lalu.
A bench of Justice Rangon Mukhopadhyay and Justice Ambuj Nath of Jharkhand High Court accepted the CBI plea. This petition was filed by the CBI in the year 2019. The CBI says that the government money was misused in this case and the public was also betrayed. Therefore, given the seriousness of such crime, the sentence of three and a half years is less. The culprits should be punished severely so that an example can be set for the scamsters. With the petition being accepted, now the CBI has got the freedom to argue in this case.
The CBI, through its petition in the Jharkhand High Court, has demanded that Jagdish Sharma convicted in the same case related to the fodder scam has been sentenced to 7 years in jail. Lalu Yadav is the main accused and conspirator of this scam, so he should also be sentenced to maximum sentence. Lalu Prasad Yadav has been sentenced to 13 and a half years in total in three cases of fodder scam. On one hand, preparations for the assembly elections are going on in Bihar, so this news is like a shock for Lalu Yadav.
