भारत की ऊर्जा क्षमता 10 वर्षों में 56 प्रतिशत बढ़कर 305 गीगावाट से 476 गीगावाट हुई

New Delhi, 9 July (IANS). Electricity demand in India declined by 1.9 percent to 150 billion units (BU) in June in June, this is the second consecutive month when there has been a decrease in power demand. The reason for this is due to more monsoon rainfall than normal, temperature in most parts of the country is reduced. This information was given in the report released by Crisil on Wednesday.

The report reported that India received 7 percent more rainfall than a long -term average between 1 and 25 June. The last monsoon received 11 percent less rainfall in the same period.

According to the report, the average market clearing price (MCP) at the Real-Time Market (RTM) declined by 26 percent to Rs 3.73 per unit in June, showing low power requirement and adequate availability.

Due to lack of demand, power generation in June has also reduced by 0.8 percent to 161 BU.

According to the report, there has been a 5 percent decrease in electricity demand in the northern region on an annual basis, while it increased by 23 percent in June 2024.

The report said, “Rainfall in the north-west region was 37 percent higher than normal, while in June 2024, heat stroke and rain was 33 percent less than normal.”

However, the demand for electricity in the southern region increased by 5.3 percent compared to the previous year, in June this is in line with the lack of 5 percent rainfall in the southern peninsula. This year, the southwest monsoon had covered the entire country by June 29 instead of 8 July.

“Although rains limited the increase in power demand, manufacturing activity has supported,” he said.

Coal is still the main fuel for power generation in India. As of 30 June, thermal power plants had 62 million tonnes of coal reserves, the highest level since April 2021. A year ago this reserves were 47 million tonnes.
