Will the salary of government employees be increased by 3 times? Learn when there will be a change in salary-pension

Crores of government employees and retired employees are eagerly waiting for the implementation of the 8th Pay Commission. Meanwhile, a news has increased his happiness. A report by the Economic Times states that the implementation of this Pay Commission can increase the salary of employees by 30 to 34 percent.

Brokerage firm Embit Capital has claimed in its report that salary and pension may increase by 30-34%, which will benefit about 1.1 crore people. The new pay scale is expected to be implemented from January 2026, but for this, first the report of the Pay Commission will have to be prepared, then it will have to be sent to the government and take approval. So far only the announcement has been made. Who will be the chairman of the Commission and what will be his term? This decision is yet to be made.

Who will get this benefit?

About 1.1 crore people can benefit from the 8th Pay Commission, including about 44 lakh central government employees and about 68 lakh pensioners. After the implementation of the Eighth Pay Commission, the basic salary, allowances and retirement benefits of the employees will increase.

What is fitment factor? A special part of fixing the new salary is the fitment factor, which is the number used to fix the new salary by multiplying the existing basic salary. Example – The Seventh Pay Commission used a 2.57 factor. At that time it increased the minimum original salary from Rs 7,000 to Rs 18,000 per month. The report states that this time the fitment factor may be between 1.83 and 2.46. The exact figures will play an important role in how much increase in employees and pensioners will get.

What is the history of increment? The previous pay commissions have shown salary increase at many levels. The Sixth Pay Commission (2006) gave an increase of about 54% in total salary and allowances. After the seventh Pay Commission was implemented in 2016, the original salary increased by 14.3% and increased by about 23% in the first year after adding other allowances.

How is salary calculated?

The salary of a government employee includes basic salary, dearness allowance (DA), house rent allowance (HRA), transport allowance (TA) and other additional benefits. Over time, the original salary share has come down from 65% of the total package to about 50% and the share of other allowances is even higher. Monthly salary is given only by adding them all. Similar changes will also be seen for pensioners. However, HRA or TA will not be given.
