Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday chaired a high -level meeting with Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on the revival of the Yamuna river. In the meeting, Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and C.R. Patil and Delhi Public Works Department (PWD) Minister also attended. Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan and Delhi Chief Secretary Dharmendra were also present along with senior officials of the Ministry of Home Affairs and Delhi.
The discussion focused on coordinated efforts and action plans to restore and revive the Yamuna River, which is considered important for the environment and public health of Delhi.
At the beginning of this week, under the leadership of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, the Delhi Jal Board has introduced a 45-sutra Action plan for the purpose of improving the water structure of the capital, upgrading sewerage networks, increasing transparency in tanker services and revival of highly polluted Yamuna River. A senior official has confirmed that this comprehensive plan with a budget of Rs 9,000 crore has been targeted to be completed by next year.
The purpose of this campaign is to provide clean water and pollution -free Yamuna to the capital. Chief Minister Gupta himself is leading the efforts to revive the river, and Lt. Governor V.K. Saxena and Public Works Minister Pravesh Verma are also keeping a close watch on it.
Additionally, the central government and the Delhi government are cooperating on a war footing to clean the Yamuna river. The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) will revaluate a total of 360 small and large drains of the city and a drone survey of 22 major drains falling into the river will be done. A total of 67 places have been identified for pollution monitoring in the Yamuna River. The survey will be conducted by July and the report will be submitted to the Delhi Jal Board.
