Religious militant Amritpal Singh Mehr, accused in the murder of digital content creator Kanchan Kumari in Bathinda, may be arrested soon. Amritpal is currently hidden in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), may soon be arrested temporarily. This information has been given by the Punjab Police officers.
According to information given by Punjab Police sources, Interpol is working on the application of the Punjab Police for this arrest. Interpol is an international institution that cooperates among the police of 196 countries. Through this, Mehras can be caught in UAE.
Some sources have said on the conditions of anonymity that the Bureau of Investigation (BOI) and the Ministry of Home Affairs are working on the process of bringing Amritpal Singh Mehr back to India from UAE. Giving information about the case on Sunday, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Amneet Kondal of Bathinda said that the district police has given an application for issuing “blue notice” on June 20, so that the case can be prosecuted for searching for Mehr and bringing him to Punjab and killing Kanchan Kumari.
He said, “We are working on his extradition process and sending information and documents sought by Interpol. But much information about the matter cannot be made public yet.”
Bathinda’s SSP Amneet Kondal has clarified that it has not yet been confirmed whether Interpol has issued a notice against Amritpal Singh Mehr. Officials said that it is not clear where Mehros is hidden in the UAE at this time. Interpol’s role is considered important in finding and taking him into custody. According to police officials, Extradition is a complex legal process, and it is working together in the state and center agencies to bring Mehr from abroad to India.
How Kanchan Kumari alias Kamal Kaur Bhabhi was murdered
According to the police, Kanchan Kumari alias Kamal Kaur Bhabhi, a resident of Ludhiana, was murdered by Mehr and her two companions. Kanchan had objections to some social media posts, who allegedly hurt the sentiments of the Sikh community. The police have described it as an illegal moral policing.
The murder incident took place on the night of 9 and 10 June, when Mehras, along with Jaspreet Singh and Nimratjit Singh, strangled them to death in Kanchan. After this, the body was thrown into the parking lot of Adesh Medical College and Hospital in Bhucho. On the evening of 11 June, the police recovered the body.
UAE ran after killing
After the murder, the Mehras fled to UAE with an international flight from Amritsar on the morning of 10 June. He was taken from Bathinda to Ranjit Singh (Taranataran) and an unknown person to the airport.
Progress in investigation
Jaspreet and Nimratjeet have been arrested by the police and sent to judicial custody.
Mehras are still absconding.
A lookout circular (LOC) has been issued against Ranjit Singh so that he does not run away from the country.
Police said raids will be resumed for the arrest of Ranjit and unknown allies.
