Kisan Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Nidhi Scheme was waiting for his 20th installment, when the Union Cabinet approved the Prime Minister Dhan-Dhanya Krishi Yojana with 36 schemes, whose annual outlay would be Rs 24,000 crore. These schemes will benefit 1.7 crore farmers. Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnav has announced this.
Approved for six years, 100 agricultural districts will be developed
The cabinet on Wednesday approved the Prime Minister Dhan-Dhanya Krishi Yojana for a period of six years. The scheme will cover 100 districts with an annual outlay of Rs 24,000 crore. Under this, 100 agricultural districts will be developed. This program announced in the Union Budget will integrate 36 existing schemes and promote crop diversification and adoption of permanent agricultural practices. Sharing information about the decisions taken in the Union Cabinet, Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that the Prime Minister Dhan-Dhanya Krishi Yojana will increase storage capacity after harvesting, improve irrigation facilities and increase agricultural productivity. 1.7 crore farmers are expected to benefit from this program.
What is Prime Minister Dhan-Dhanya Krishi Yojana?
In the Union Budget 2025-26, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced a ‘Prime Minister Dhan-Dhanya Krishi Yojana’ to promote the agriculture sector, which has now received the approval of the Cabinet. Under this, agricultural districts will be developed. The scheme will target 100 districts with low productivity, sowing of low crops and less than average loan availability. For modernization of Indian agriculture, this scheme will be implemented in a phased manner with a multifaceted approach. The scheme will be focused on crop diversification, sustainable and climate-friendly farming. In addition, emphasis will also be laid on increasing storage capacity after harvesting and improvement in technology.
How is this beneficial for farmers?
The objective of the Prime Minister Dhan-Dhanya Krishi Yojana is to solve the problem of low employment in the agriculture sector, to create rural assets and adapt the circumstances for the development of rural economy through skill upgradation, investment and technology. Also, for self-sufficiency in pulses, six-year ‘self-sufficiency mission in pulses’ aims to develop climate-friendly seeds, improve yield storage and ensure fair price to farmers. In addition, the Union Budget plans to increase the production of vegetables and fruits, efficient supply, ensure processing and ensure fair price to farmers as well as development of rural loans scores of public sector banks.
