The driver of the vehicle collided with the world’s oldest marathon runner Fauja Singh has also been arrested. Police have also recovered the vehicle. Sources gave this information on Wednesday.
Sources said that the accused has been identified as Amritpal Singh Dhillon (26), a resident of Dasupur in Kartarpur. Police have also recovered a white colored Fortuner car used in the incident. The accused was absconding since the accident, but the police nabbed the accused on the basis of CCTV footage and the car’s headlight on the spot.
Amritpal Singh has confessed his crime in police interrogation. He told that he was alone at the time of the accident and was going from Bhogpur towards Kishangarh. The accident occurred due to negligence and high speed. In this entire case, an FIR has been lodged under Section 281 (careless vehicle that threatens life) and Section 105 (non-Iradatan murder) of the Indian Justice Code (BNS) in the police station Adampur.
Significantly, around 3 pm on Monday afternoon, when the runner Fauja Singh was walking near his house, the car hit him. Fauja Singh died in this accident. The police registered a case and started searching for the absconding driver.
