Balasore self -immolation case: Police detained BJD workers, water showers on protesters

The police on Wednesday used water showers to disperse the BJD workers, protesting against the Odisha government. The demonstration was performed by a 20 -year -old girl after committing self -immolation due to alleged sexual harassment by her teacher.

The police also detained the BJD workers protesting against the death of a student of Balasore. The main opposition party of Odisha, Biju Janata Dal, today took to the streets and called for a ‘Balasor bandh’ in protest against the Odisha government. The incident occurred after an incident of self -immolation by a 20 -year -old girl due to alleged sexual harassment by her teacher.

BJD workers burnt tires on the streets in Balasore and expressed anger over the “inaction” of the government, due to which the girl committed self -immolation against sexual harassment. A business worker demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and Education Minister Suryavanshi Suraj.

The 20 -year -old student set herself on fire after her college head of department allegedly faced sexual harassment.

Despite filing a formal complaint and seeking help from the principal, his plea was unheard, resulting in this tragic incident. The incident occurred at Fakir Mohan (Autonomous) College. Earlier, the BJD chief Naveen Patnaik criticized the Odisha government, calling his administration a “failed system” and attributed his inaction to the death of a student of Balasore College. The Patanayak said that his death was “not an accident” but a result of the system that “kept quiet”.

Naveen Patnaik said in a post on X, “It is even more disturbing to think about how a failed system can kill someone. The saddest thing is that it was not an accident, but a result of a system that kept quiet instead of helping. The girl struggling for justice finally closed her eyes.”

Emphasizing the alleged inaction of the administration, Patnaik said that despite repeated demands by the student, the administration ignored him. Patanayak said, “With great courage, he wrote a letter to the college principal and informed them about sexual harassment. He did not give up even after being ignored by the college administration. He did not give up to get justice. Personally shared his suffering. “

Patnaik said, “With great courage, she wrote a letter to the college principal and informed about the sexual harassment that happened to her. Even after being ignored by the college administration, she did not give up. To get justice, she went to the Higher Education Minister, Chief Minister’s Office and even a Union Minister. She also shared her pain with Balasore MP.”

On Monday, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Bhubaneswar confirmed the death of a 20 -year -old student of Fakir Mohan Autonomous College in Balasore, Odisha, who attempted self -immolation. AIMS Bhubaneswar’s Burn Center Department said in a statement that the patient was brought on July 12 and he was referred to AIIMS Bhuvaneshwar from Balasore District Headquarters Hospital.
