Five policemen have been suspended to be negligent in duty in the murder of gangster Chandan Mishra at Paras Hospital in Patna, the capital of Bihar. The action was taken on 19 July 2025, when five accused were arrested from New Town in Kolkata. Chandan Mishra, who was serving life imprisonment in 2011 in the murder of businessman Rajendra Keshari, was shot in the hospital on 17 July.
Chandan Mishra was a resident of Buxar district and had more than 20 criminal cases such as murder, bank robbery and robbery in jewelery shops. He was serving a sentence in Bureur Central Jail and was on a 15 -day parole on medical grounds, which was scheduled to end on 18 July. On Thursday morning, five to six armed men entered Paras Hospital in Shastri Nagar Police Station area, fired several bullets in a private room of Chandan and escaped. In CCTV footage, the attackers were seen taking out weapons in the corridor and entering room number 209.
Patna Police and West Bengal STF arrested five accused from a residential complex in Kolkata in a joint raid. An accused, Tausif, was already detained. Police say that in the preliminary investigation, this gang is a case of war. SP Deeksha of Patna Central said that suspended policemen include a sub-inspector and two ASIs, who were stationed at Shastri Nagar Police Station. He said that serious questions have been raised on the security system by reaching another male of the hospital without any security check without the attackers.
Opposition leaders, such as RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav and MP Pappu Yadav, accused the Nitish Kumar government of deteriorating law and order over the incident. Tejashwi shared CCTV footage and described it as “Gunda Raj”. Police are raiding several places and are investigating with the help of CCTV, Forensic and Dog Squad.
