Destruction in Pakistan: Monsoon killed more than 200 people, 560 people injured

This time the monsoon has caused huge destruction in Pakistan. More than 200 people have lost their lives since the onset of monsoon in late June, including about 100 children.

Jio TV quoted Pakistan’s National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) as saying that 123 of the total deaths in Punjab, Pakistan. This was followed by 40 deaths in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 21 in Sindh, 16 in Balochistan, 1 in Islamabad and 1 in Pakistan Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

Although the causes of death were different, it was reported that at least 118 people were killed by the house collapsing, 30 people were suddenly killed due to floods, while others died due to drowning, lightning, current and landslides.

Jio TV said that more than 560 people, including 182 children, have been injured due to rain.

It further states that the sudden floods in Rawalpindi engulfed houses, roads and markets, causing the entire locality to submerge, the water level increased dangerously – in some areas, the water reached the roofs – which forced the residents to leave their luggage and flee.

There has also been a huge loss in the decision in the decision, where 11 people died and 60 people were injured in 33 incidents in just two days. Most of the deaths occurred due to the collapse of weak structures.

The infrastructure was destroyed due to heavy rains and landslides in Pakistan’s Punjab. According to Jio TV, at least 32 roads were washed away after more than 450 mm of rain in Chakwal. Along with damaging the infrastructure, communication connectivity is also broken and power supply is yet to be restored in many areas.

According to a recent report by the United Nations News, there is also a possibility of flooding of the glacier lake in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit Baltistan regions.

UN News highlighted how these floods reflect Pakistan’s sensitivity to climate changes. In 2022, the monsoon floods killed more than 1,700 people, displaced millions of people and water systems were destroyed. It also caused economic loss of about 40 billion US dollars.

Pakistan suffers from regular monsoon floods from June to September, resulting in deadly landslides, damage to infrastructure and large -scale displacement, especially in densely populated or poor drainage areas.
