On the first day of the monsoon session of Parliament, amidst the uproar and postponement, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi alleged that he was not allowed to speak in the Lok Sabha despite being the leader of the opposition. After the House’s proceedings were postponed, Rahul told reporters outside the Parliament House, “The Defense Minister and other people of the government are allowed to speak, but the opposition leaders are not being allowed to speak. The Chief Opposition leader, the leader of the opposition, speaking is my right, it is my job to raise the issue, but they are not letting me speak.”
‘Government is adopting a new way’
He alleged that the government is adopting a new method. He said, ‘Prime Minister Narendra Modi left the House and left. If they allow, there may be discussion, but the thing is that the tradition says that if the leaders of the government are allowed to speak, we should also be given a place. We wanted to speak, but we were not allowed.
Uproar over the demand for discussion on Operation Sindoor
Earlier, the opposition members led by the Congress stood up in the Lok Sabha demanding a discussion on Operation Sindoor. After the Pahalgam terror attack under Operation Sindoor, the Indian armed forces gave a befitting reply to Pakistan. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla said that he is ready to allow members to raise all issues including Operation Sindoor after the Question Hour. Question hour is the first hour of the day, in which members raise questions related to various ministries and departments.
‘All issues will be allowed after Question Hour’
He said, ‘I will allow you to raise all issues after the Question Hour. The House will run according to the rules. It cannot be allowed to raise slogans and wave placards. Birla said that if the members give notice, they will allow them to raise all the issues and will give adequate time to each MP.
