On 21 July 2025, an F-7 BGI training of Bangladesh Air Force crashed in the milestone school and college campus in the Uttara area of Jet Dhaka. The accident occurred a few minutes after flying at 1:06 pm, when the jet fell on the canteen’s canteen. According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the aircraft was on a regular training mission. According to AP report, Fire Service and Civil Defense confirmed the death of at least 19 individuals, while more than 160 people were injured, mostly students. At the time of the accident, children were taking the exam in the school or were in regular classes. According to Prothom Alo, at least 20 people, mostly with burning injuries, were taken to the hospital. More than 30 injured were admitted to Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, while 18 were taken to Lubana General Hospital and Burn Unit of Dhaka Medical College. The Bangladesh Army and eight Fire Service units immediately started the work of rescue and extinguishing the fire. Army Chief General Walker-e-Zaman also reached the spot.
Local media Jamuna TV reported that at least 13 people were injured, many of whom were in critical condition. Eyewitnesses said that army personnel took the injured students to the hospital by rickshaws and other means, as ambulances were not available immediately. In the viral video on social media, students ran into panic and panic between smoke. The Daily Star reported that at least 16 people died in the accident, including the pilot.
The Bangladesh Air Force confirmed that the crashed aircraft was Chinese-made F-7 BGI, but the cause of the accident was not yet clear. Investigation has been started. The accident is the second accident of Bangladesh Air Force in recent months, before a pilot died in a Yak-130 jet accident in May 2024. The incident questions aviation safety in Dhaka and emergency preparations in school premises.
