Indians' contributors to Kuwait's economy, every 5th person of Kuwait

More than 1 million Indian citizens are currently living and working in Kuwait, which is the largest migrant community in the country. This information was given by Dr. Adarsh Swaika, Ambassador of India in Kuwait.

During an interview to Al Qabas, he stressed the strong relations between India and Kuwait in the meeting of Public Authority for Manpower’s Acting Director General Marjook Al Utebi Ambassador Swayka. He stated the need to maintain constant talks on issues related to wages and employment. According to official data, Kuwait has 10,07,961 Indian citizens in Kuwait as of 31 December 2024, which is about 20% of the total population of Kuwait.

Deep confidence and mutual dependence between India and Kuwait

Ambassador Swaika said, “Such a large number of Indians in Kuwait show how much trust and mutual cooperation between India and Kuwait. We are committed to ensure the good of Indians living here and want to further strengthen cooperation with our Kuwaiti partners.”

Indian in every field

Indian citizens in Kuwait are working in every field from big officials, doctors, engineers and nurses to drivers, domestic assistants and servants.

The distribution of Indian jobs is like this:

Private Sector: 5,37,653 people

Domestic workers (domestic workers): 3,28,587 people

Government Jobs: 22,828 people

Although the number is very large, the ambassador said that Indian workers do not have much problems – provided that both countries follow Kuwait’s labor laws and mutual agreements.

Strong relationship

The Indian community has been playing an important role in Kuwait’s progress for a long time. His contribution shows not only economic but also the depth of cultural and diplomatic relationships. Even though the number of Indian migrants has been stable in recent years, demands in areas such as healthcare, engineering and skilled labor are continuously increasing.
