According to IMD, heavy rains are likely to continue at some places in Jammu and Kashmir from 30 August to 2 September, while during the next four days, light to moderate rainfall is expected in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad and parts of Uttarakhand.
The Ministry of Defense said that on Friday, the Indian Air Force (IAF) has intensified flood relief and rescue operations in North India, mainly focused on severely affected Jammu and Punjab regions.
The MI-17 and Chinook helicopters have flown more than 55 flights to remove the trapped citizens including the Indian Army and Border Security Force personnel from the submerged areas in Dera Baba Nanak, Pathankot and Akhnoor sectors.
The ministry said that transport aircraft (C-130) have been deployed to ensure speedy movement of special NDRF teams in the affected areas. The ministry further stated that “215 people have been rescued through these campaigns in the last three days and 7,300 kg required relief materials have been delivered to the affected areas.”
Meanwhile, Ramban MLA Arjun Singh Raju on Friday met flood affected families in the lower Maitra of Ward 6 and announced financial assistance for the construction of a security wall for the protection of their houses.
Talking to reporters, MLA Raju said, “The rains in the lower Maitra have damaged the houses. We will not be able to give them full compensation. We reached here tomorrow. I will deposit Rs 5,00,000 in MNREGA and also contribute Rs 5,00,000 on my behalf for the construction of the security wall.”
He said, “We would advise the administration to take this consultation seriously. The administration needs to be vigilant. The government and administration will support them. We are committed to our people.”
