In the pitrupaksha, offering food to the Panchbali deities, grass to cows, dogs, crows and ants is considered very auspicious. At the same time, the first bite of food should be kept for cow, second for bird and third for dog. On the day of shraddha, preparations should be made for the arrival of ancestors by sprinkling cold water on both sides of the door.
