Taking a historic decision, the Bihar government today approved a plan to develop the holy site of Punauradham in Sitamarhi district on the lines of Ayodhya. A total of 24 proposals were approved in the cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Tuesday, with the most important master plan of the overall development of Punauradham.
The government will spend around Rs 883 crore on this project. According to the proposal, this amount will be raised from various departments, schemes and special funds of the state government. The project aims to promote religious tourism, create local employment opportunities and to establish the cultural identity of Mithila region on the national stage.
Punaradham is considered the birthplace of Mother Sita. Given religious beliefs and historical importance, a grand temple, pilgrim facility center, passenger residence, interpretation center, religious path, parking zone, sewerage-drainage system and green sector will be developed here. Also, a special management committee will be formed for proper maintenance and operation of the region.
The government has prepared a detailed action plan for the implementation of the scheme. Construction will be completed in a phased manner. In the first phase, the construction and beautification of the infrastructure of the pilgrimage site will be noted, while in the second phase tourist facilities, residential infrastructure and other business models will be developed.
Punaura Dham is located about 5 kilometers west of the city of Sitamarhi and this place is famous among the devotees as the birthplace of Mother Sita. Every year lakhs of devotees come here to visit. With the construction of the temple, the region will develop as a major religious and tourist destination. This will not only promote religious tourism, but will also increase local trade, employment and infrastructure.
