What is the history of the temple?
According to Shivpuran, a demon named Tarakasura did a lot of penance to please Bholenath. In such a situation, Lord was pleased with the penance of Tarakasura and asked him to ask for any boon in return. In such a situation, Tarakasura asked God a boon that no one could kill him except Shiva’s son, but during this time his son should not be more than 6 days old. Mahadev gave this boon to Tarakasura. After receiving the boon, the demon started harassing the people. In such a situation, the gods prayed to Lord Shiva to kill him, after which 6 days Kartikeya was born from the white mountain kund and he killed the demon. However, when Mahadev got the news of this, he was very sad.
Thus the temple was established
When Karthikeya realized his mistake, Lord Vishnu gave him a chance to atone. Lord Vishnu suggested him that he should establish a Shivling where he has killed the Asuras. At the behest of Lord Vishnu, Karthikeya did the same, after which this temple came to be known as Pillameshwar Temple.
Why is the temple in the lap of the sea?
Very few people would know that this temple sinks in the sea twice in the morning and evening. However, the reason behind this is completely natural. But still people do not consider it less than any surprise. Actually, this temple is located in the middle of the sea. In such a situation, when the sea level rises during the day, the temple is completely submerged in water. But when the water level decreases, the temple starts appearing again. People believe that Shiva is bathed with sea water. People stay here from morning to night to see it.
