Lucknow, Amrit Vichar: Diwali will be celebrated on Thursday 31st October only. Astrologers and panchangars from Nepal to entire India are unanimous on this. On Tuesday, an online meeting of 100 astrologers and panchangars from Nepal and India was held at the Central Sanskrit University campus. This decision was taken on the basis of deep contemplation of the traditions and texts of the Indian calendar. Scholars from Kashi Vidvat Parishad, Kashi Hindu University, Mithila, South India and Nepal agreed to worship Lakshmi as per the scriptures on 31st.
Presiding over the meeting was senior professor and faculty head of Astrology Department of Central Sanskrit University, Prof. Sarvanarayan Jha said that in the ancient Indian knowledge tradition, almanac mathematics has been done since time immemorial on the basis of Surya Siddhanta. He said that in the almanacs of both the ancient and modern systems prevalent in India and Nepal, Amavasya is starting between 3:30 am and 4 pm on October 31, there is no double opinion on this. Lakshmi puja is from one and a half hour after sunset till one and a half hour in advance. That means, the best time for worship on Diwali is from 6:50 pm to 8:20 pm. During this time period, there is a combination of both Pradosh Kaal and Rajni. Amavasya in Pradosh Kaal, Nishith Kaal (midnight) and Gram Muhurta is on Thursday 31st October only.
Pradosh, Nishith (midnight) Ubhay Vyapini Amavasya is acceptable for Diwali. Lakshmi is worshiped during Pradosh period. Kali puja is performed during Nishith Kaal (midnight) and at the end of the night the poverty is removed. It is according to the scriptures to complete all these tasks on 31st October. It is mentioned in some almanacs that Amavasya Tithi is touching Pradosh Kaal on 1st November also, but there is no Amavasya after sunset on that day, hence celebrating Diwali on that day is not as per the scriptures.
