According to Bhagwat and Vishnu Purana, once the deities and sages debated a debate on who is the best among the three gods. When there was no conclusion in this debate, the sage Bhrigu was tasked to find out who is the best among the three gods. For this, the sage Bhrigu made a plan and thought of going to the three gods one by one. For this, he first approached Brahma and then Lord Shankar. He eventually reached Lord Srihari Vishnu.
Test of Lord Brahma and Shankar
Rishi Bhrigu first approached Lord Brahma and Shankar. Brahma ji is the father of Rishi Bhrigu, but he did not deliberately bow to him. On this, Brahma, the author of the universe, got angry, but Bhrigu was his son, so he suppressed his anger in his mind.
Bhrigu arrives to meet Shankar
Lord Shankar’s wife Goddess Sati and Rishi Bhrigu’s wife Khyati were both sisters. That is why Lord Shankar was a monk of sage Bhrigu. Enraged by this, Lord Shankar wanted to hug him, but the sage Bhrigu refused, saying that this type of conduct does not suit him. Lord Shankar became angry at this, but then Sati appeared before him, which calmed Lord Shankar’s anger.
Examination of Lord Vishnu
Rishi Bhrigu reached Ksheer Sagar to take the examination of Lord Shriharivishnu. Where Lord Vishnu was resting on the bed of Sheshnag. Bhrigu saw that Lord Vishnu did not welcome him. On this, he attacked Lord Vishnu’s chest. Seeing this, Goddess Lakshmi felt very humiliated, because the sage Bhrigu was her father, so she could not say anything.
Lord Vishnu grabbed his feet!
Lord Vishnu grabbed the sage’s feet and said, O sage! Have you hurt your feet lotus by hitting me hard? Rishi Bhrigu was pleased to see the humility of Lord Vishnu and he described Lord Vishnu as superior among the three gods. This story is found in the wing 10 chapters 89 of the Bhagavata Purana and Vishnu Purana.
Who was the sage Bhrigu?
Rishi Bhrigu was the psyche son of Lord Brahma. He has got a place in the Saptarishi Mandal. He was married to Maharaja Daksha’s daughter and Sati’s sister Khyati. Thus Maharishi Bhrigu was the monk of Lord Shiva. Along with this, he was also the father -in -law of Lord Vishnu. He married his daughter Lakshmi to Lord Vishnu. He composed the mantras of Bhrigu Samhita and Rigveda.
