Arjuna was the most beautiful and attractive among the Pandavas. So wherever they were, they became dear to women. Women were fascinated by them throughout their life. There are many stories that Arjun was surrounded or chased by so many women that Bhima and Nakula had to come to save them. Famous mythological legend expert and writer Devdutt Patnaik wrote in his new book Sati Savitri that when Arjun was in exile, Nakula had rubbed the women on his face to prevent women from chasing them. Arjuna’s appearance was so attractive that women followed him everywhere. In this, he has written how many women used to come to Arjun.
Arjun was born from Kunti through Indra. So he was beautiful and lovely like Indra. In the Mahabharata, he is described as very beautiful, attractive and brave men. Due to their appearance, etiquette and war skills, they were the center of attraction not only in the battlefield but also in social and personal life, especially women.
Women from everywhere were attracted towards them
There are many examples in the Mahabharata that when the Pandavas were in exile, Arjuna’s beauty and personality was so impressive that many women were attracted to him. Some stories states that Arjuna’s attraction was so strong that his brothers, especially Bhima, had to be in a position to protect him from some enthusiastic fans. There were many women in Arjun’s life, which they fell in love with. They also married. Many had to refuse them. He also had to face his displeasure.
How did Arjun fall in love with Chitrangada?
When the Pandavas were sentenced to 12 years of exile and 1 year unknown exile due to insulting Draupadi and losing in gambling, Arjun decided to go on a pilgrimage for some time. Then he reached Manipur via many parts of the country, which was a rich and powerful state at that time. The king of Manipur was Chitravahana. His daughter Chitrangada was Sundar, brave and skilled warrior.
When both saw each other for the first time
On reaching Manipur, Arjuna saw Chitrangada, which was famous for her beauty, decency and war skills. Chitrangada was also influenced by Arjuna’s form, valor and fame. Both got attracted to each other. Arjuna sought Chitrangada’s hand from King Chitravahana.
Then both got married
King Chitravahana spoke about the tradition of Manipur before accepting Arjuna’s proposal. In Manipur, there was a rule that the son of the king’s child would be the successor of the throne. So if Arjun marries Chitrangada, his children will remain in Manipur. She will be the successor of the state. Arjuna accepted this condition because he loved Chitrangada. A son was born from this marriage, named Babruvahana, who later became the king of Manipur.
And Ulupi fell in love with Arjuna
When Arjun went to the banks of river Ganga to bathe and do penance during his visit to India. Here he met Naglok’s princess Ulupi. She was the daughter of Nagraj Kauravya. She was a beautiful and intelligent girl. She was attracted to seeing Arjuna. According to the Mahabharata, Ulupi saw Arjuna while bathing in the Ganges river. At that time she started loving Arjuna. She went to Arjun. Expressed love. Ulupi told Arjuna that he is influenced by his qualities and success. She wants to marry her. Arjun hesitated first, but then agreed. Both got married. Arjun stayed with Ulupi in Naglok for some time. This led to the birth of a son, named Iravan (or Iravat).
Subhadra fell in love with him and got married
Subhadra and Arjuna’s love is one of the most romantic stories of Mahabharata. When Arjun was in exile, he stayed in Dwarka as a guest of Lord Krishna. There, when Subhadra saw Arjuna, she started loving her. Krishna probably wanted Arjun to marry his sister but Krishna’s elder brother Balaram was not aware of this. Krishna conquered Arjuna by marrying Subhadra. Balaram was also angry with this.
Draupadi loved her most but ..
Draupadi was won by Arjuna. She was his favorite wife. Draupadi and Arjuna’s love was deep and Draupadi’s special affection for Arjun is seen in many examples. However, he was rarely with Draupadi than his other brothers, as he had to go to that room for some work between Yudhishthira and Draupadi. For this reason, according to the condition, he himself took the sentence of 12 years of exile. For this reason, he stayed away from Draupadi for 12 years.
Urvashi also loved but why she got angry
When Arjun went to Indra’s court, Apsara Urvashi became fascinated by him. He proposed love to Arjun, but Arjuna considered her as a mother (because she was the wife of his ancestor Pururava). Then Urvashi became angry and cursed Arjuna that he would remain impotent for a year. However, this curse later proved to be a boon for Arjun during exile, when he remained in the form of Brihannala.
Duryodhana’s wife also wanted her
It is also said in the Mahabharata that his wife Bhanumati was a fan of Arjun before marriage to Duryodhana. She wanted to marry her, but could not. He was married to Duryodhana. But it is believed that when Duryodhana died in the war of Mahabharata, when his family suggested Bhanumati to marry Arjuna, he accepted it. He married Arjuna. After that she remained his wife.
