Chaturmas begins with Devshayani Ekadashi falling on the Shukla Paksha of Ashada month. This time Chaturmas started from 6 July. It is believed that Lord Vishnu goes to yoga sleep from this date and then wakes up again on the Devuthani Ekadashi of Kartik month. During this time no auspicious or auspicious work is done.
Therefore it is called Chaturmas.
Chaturmas starts from Ashada Shukla Ekadashi and ends on Kartik Shukla Ekadashi. Chaturmas is calculated not in the name of the month, but on the basis of date. This is the reason that only four months are counted in Chaturmas. Sometimes due to more mass, the spring becomes two months old. But even after this, only 4 months are considered in Chaturmas which are as follows –
1. One month from Ashada Shukla Ekadashi to Sawan Shukla Ekadashi
2. Sawan Shukla Ekadashi to Bhadrapad Shukla Ekadashi second month
3. Third month from Bhadrapada Shukla Ekadashi to Ashwin Shukla Ekadashi
4. Fourth month from Ashwin Shukla Ekadashi to Kartik Shukla Ekadashi
That’s why auspicious tasks are not done
During Chaturmas, doing any auspicious and auspicious work is also forbidden. The reason behind this is believed that during this time Lord Vishnu is in yoga sleep with other gods. Due to which you do not get their blessings in that work.
