A tradition of beating dolls (doll 2025) is also played in many places during the month of Sawan. This tradition is played on the day of Nag Panchami, the day snakes are worshiped all over the country. You must be wondering what is the reason for beating the doll on the festival of Nag Puja? Actually, its story is related to brother and sister’s love. It is said that once a time, a boy used to be a devotee of Lord Shiva. He would regularly go to the temple and anoint Bholenath. A snake lived nearby, who would affectionately come to the boy and hug his feet.
Sister scared after seeing the snake
One day the boy came to the temple with his sister. After the puja, the snake left his gem and wrapped in his feet, subjugated with affection. Seeing this, the sister got scared. He felt that the snake should not bite his brother.
Seeing the brother’s life in danger, the sister attacked the snake with a nearby wood. Before the brother could stop his sister or explain anything, the snake was beaten to death with sticks. When the villagers came to know about this, it became clear that atonement would have to be done.
Gives the message of protecting snakes
However, the girl could not be punished for accidentally committed crime. Therefore a doll of cloth was made, which was symbolically beaten with sticks and this justice was done. Since then, the trend of beating the doll to make people aware of protecting snakes started.
Even today, in many parts of the country, cloth dolls are made and beaten with sticks. Those dolls are then immersed in water.
