New Delhi. The central government has ordered the deployment of 580 companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) for the annual Amarnath Yatra in Jammu and Kashmir. Under this, about 42,000 personnel will be deployed. Official sources gave this information on Thursday. According to sources, 424 companies of CAPF are being sent to the Union Territory, while the remaining 80 companies sent to Jammu and Kashmir during ‘Operation Sindoor’ will be transferred to the security of Amarnath Yatra, pilgrims and other areas including Srinagar.
Officials told the ‘news agency’ that the Union Home Ministry has directed these security forces to leave ‘immediately’ and to take the front in Jammu and Kashmir by the second week of June. The Amarnath Yatra will start from July 3 and end on August 09. According to sources, the security deployment scheme for the pilgrimage is being prepared keeping in mind the challenges created after the Pahalgam terror attack.
A senior official said, “This time the Union Home Ministry has decided to deploy about 580 CAPF companies for the Amarnath Yatra. It consists of 150–160 companies already existing in the Union Territory. ”He said that these companies have been taken from five Central Armed Police Forces-Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Border Security Force (BSF), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), India Tibet Border Police (ITBP) and Armed Border Force (SSB).
Each of these companies consists of about 70-75 personnel. Union Home Minister Amit Shah will also review the security arrangements during his proposed Jammu tour on Thursday. CRPF Director General (DG) Gyanendra Pratap Singh reviewed the preparations for the Amarnath Yatra last week during his stay in Kashmir. BSF DG Daljit Singh Chaudhary is also likely to review the border security and travel in Srinagar.
