Guwahati. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Vishwa Sharma on Friday called upon the cancellation of ‘Bihu’ celebrations already running ‘Bihu’. Although Sharma did not give any reason, but it is believed that he has made this appeal due to the increasing tension between India and Pakistan. He wrote in a post on the social media platform ‘X’, “Since last month, we have celebrated Bihu with gaiety throughout Assam through many cultural programs. I thank everyone for their enthusiastic participation and contribution.”
Appealing to cancel all the remaining ‘Bihu’ ceremonies scheduled from May 10, Sharma said, “However, the time has come to end this festive season.” ‘Bohag or Rongali Bihu’ is celebrated from mid -April, which symbolizes the beginning of Assamese New Year. Cultural programs are organized in the state during this festival lasting about a month.
The Chief Minister said, “Come, let us end this vibrant festival brilliantly with the same unity and spirit, with which it started.”
