According to Udayatithi, this year Ashada Amavasya is being celebrated on 25 June, because in Hinduism, the date of Udayakal is given priority.
Method of bathing, charity and worship
There is a tradition of bathing in the Ganges especially on Ashada Amavasya. If bathing the Ganges is not possible for some reason, then taking a bath by mixing Ganga water in the bath water is considered equally virtuous.
Method of worship:
Get up in Brahma Muhurta and take a bath.
After bathing, offer arghya to Lord Surya and chant Gayatri Mantra 108 times.
Worship Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati.
Offer water to basil and peepal.
Orbit the peepal tree 108 times and revolve around wrapping thread.
Offer yogurt, sandalwood, milk, turmeric, rice etc.
It is considered auspicious to feed rice to the cow, to donate food and clothes to the poor.
Do tarpan and shraddha for fathers.
Importance of Tarpan and Shraddha for ancestors
Halaharini Amavasya is considered extremely auspicious for Pitra Tarpan. On this day, offering to the fathers brings peace to them and they are satisfied and bless their descendants. For the ancestors and offering food, giving food to the cow, and distributing sweets and clothes among the poor are the most auspicious actions of this day.
Festival related to agricultural culture
Halharini Amavasya is also especially related to agricultural culture. On this day, farmers duly worship their plows, bulls, and other agricultural equipment. It is believed that it brings prosperity in farming and protects against natural disasters. This is the reason that it is also called the festival of farmers.
Special importance for women
On this day, married women wear bindi, bangles and mehndi and wish the family’s happiness and prosperity. Women observing fast fast throughout the day and fast without eating anything and passes the fast at night.
