Shailputri is the daughter of the Himalayas. Himalayan is the king of mountains. He is firm, no one can shake him. When we choose the path of devotion, then we should have a similar belief in our mind, only then we can reach our goal. This is the reason that Shailputri is worshiped on the first day of Navratri.
Mythology of Maa Shailputri
Mother Shailputri is also known as Sati. Once Prajapati Daksha decided to perform the yajna. For this, he sent an invitation to all the deities, but not Lord Shiva. Goddess Sati knew that the invitation would come to her, but it did not happen. She was restless to go to that yagna, but Lord Shiva refused.
He said that no invitation has come to him to go to the yagna and hence it is not appropriate to go there. Sati did not listen and kept urging to go to the yajna again and again. Shiva had to obey Sati and Shiva had to obey him and allow it. When Sati reached her father Prajapati Daksha’s place, no one except her mother showed her affection. Seeing the disdain of her husband Lord Shiva, Sati sacrificed herself in the fire of the same yajna and gave up her life. As soon as Lord Shiva came to know about it, Shiva burnt in the flame of sorrow and anger destroyed the Daksha Yagya. Sati was born to the Himalayas and the mother was named Shailputri.
It is said that on the first day of Navratri i.e. Pratipada, whoever sees the mother Shailputri, the sufferings of all their marital life are removed. Since the vehicle of mother Shailputri is Taurus, she is also called Vrisharuda. He has a lotus in his left hand and trident in the right hand.
