The meaning of the shloka mentioned in Niti Shastra is that one should never trust animals like Nakhinaam i.e. lions and leopards with long nails, huge rivers, animals like Shringinam i.e. bulls with large horns, people carrying weapons, women and people belonging to the king’s clan.
According to Chanakya, one should stay away from violent animals with long nails, one never knows when they might attack. Rivers whose banks or embankments are not strong should not be trusted because their speed may become fierce any time and their direction may change any time, one never knows in which direction they might start flowing. That is why people living on the banks of rivers always get ruined.
Chanakya says that animals with large horns like bulls etc. cannot be trusted, they may get upset anytime. One who has a weapon like sword etc. cannot be trusted because he can get angry on a small issue and become aggressive anytime.
Chanakya further says that women with a fickle nature should not be trusted. They can create unfavorable situations for you at any time with their cleverness. Many such examples are also found in the scriptures. It is not right to trust the royal servants and people of the royal family related to the king. They can do harm to the king by whispering in his ears. At the same time, they are dedicated and loyal to the royal rules. For them, the interest of the king is more important than the relationship.
