Lucknow, Amrit Vichar: The Uttar Pradesh government has launched the Swachh Ghat competition across the state to promote cleanliness, beautification and plastic-free environment at the ghats on the occasion of Chhath festival. According to a statement issued by the state government on Wednesday, this competition will start from today till November 8 and will include various activities to increase awareness about cleanliness among various organizations and promote engagement with this campaign.
Under this initiative, ‘Arpan Kalash’ have been placed at the Ghats to encourage people to maintain cleanliness and the Ghats have been declared ‘No Plastic Zone’ to restrict the use of plastic and thermocol. Temporary toilets and bathrooms are being built at the ghats, which will be regularly maintained. Swachh Sarathi Club as well as schools, colleges, universities, NGOs and other voluntary organizations are supporting these efforts to promote the success of the competition.
According to the statement of the state government, special initiatives have been taken to beautify the ghats. Dustbins have been placed for proper disposal of garbage and to maintain cleanliness in the area. Various activities are also being organized to encourage active citizen participation in keeping the ghats clean. The campaign is receiving strong support from NGOs, CSOs and other voluntary organizations who are not only carrying out cleanliness drives at the ghats but also educating people about the importance of maintaining a clean and safe environment.
Chhath is a major festival celebrated in Bihar and eastern Uttar Pradesh. This festival is dedicated to the worship of Sun God and is celebrated by following a strict routine for four days. The rituals and traditions of this festival include fasting, offering Arghya to the rising and setting sun, holy bath and meditation while standing in water.
