Lucknow, Amrit Vichar: A unique riot was seen on the occasion of Nag Panchami on Tuesday in Bagh Mahanarayan of Chowk area. In this communal harmony riot held on the occasion of the 56th annual festival of Gomti Pahalwan Akhara, the wrestlers announced “Jai Bajrangbali” and “or Ali” before beating each other.
Along with traditional clay matches in Dangal, Sundarkand text was also held. The audience present was thrilled to see the old desi stakes like waist Dhaka, Dhobi Pat and Chapras. Olympic Association Treasurer and National Player Dr. Syed Rak Jubera Rizvi launched the riot by joining hands with the wrestlers. Councilor Anurag Mishra, the architect of the event, said that the purpose of this festival is to keep traditional wrestling alive and connect the youth with sports.
A total of 62 wrestlers participated, including players from areas like Chowk, Balaganj, Kakori, Madianv. The winners were given a cash reward of ₹ 1100 and the runners up ₹ 500. Among the matches, the trophy was distributed in the names of Pandit Nageshwar Awasthi, Guru Omkar Singh, Baldev Raj Chopra and other senior master. Many social organizations, senior wrestlers and players were also honored on the occasion. Many dignitaries including Gopal Sahu, NK Sharma, Sunit Kapoor were present in the program. The organizers reported that the event is not just a sport, but an example of Ganga-Jamuni Tehzeeb, which connects people with unity and tradition.
Maharathi fought in soil, rhythm wrestlers showed strength
On the auspicious occasion of Nagpanchami, the wrestlers tried hard in the historic Dangal held in Saraswan village in Sushant Golf City and brought alive the tradition of malay war. The tradition of this riot has been going on for about 70 years. In the event held on Tuesday, wrestlers from several districts including Gorakhpur, Banaras, Kanpur, Unnao, Lucknow, Rae Bareli performed brilliantly in the arena.
Saurabh (Gorakhpur) defeated Dileep of Unnao and Pankaj of Kanpur defeated his opponent and won the victory. In every wrestling match, the atmosphere echoed with applause and cheers of the audience. The winners of the Dangal were honored by presenting a cash prize and aonth by Thakur Uday Singh Chauhan. Hundreds of wrestling lovers were present in the program, including prominent personalities of the area like Jawahar Singh, Panna Singh, Abhimanyu Singh, Rakesh Singh. The Dangal event once again converted the village into a cultural festival.
