According to astrology, on the night of Dhanteras, light a lamp in the name of Lord Yama and keep it near the entrance of the house. But keep in mind that the lamp named after Yama should be a little big and should not be kept directly on the ground. Before placing the lamp, keep some grains at the entrance of the house and then place the lamp on top.
Fill mustard oil inside the lamp and light the lamp. Then burn it and leave it at the same place overnight. After lighting the lamp, it should not be removed from its place twice nor should one look back after lighting it. It is not good to do this.
