Durga Pooja 2024: Durga Puja begins every year with Mahalaya. In Hinduism, Mahalaya is celebrated on the Amavasya date of Krishna Paksha of Ashwin month. This is the last day of Shradhpaksha. On this day Sarvapitre Amavasya is celebrated and tarpan and shraddha are performed for all the dead ancestors of the house. In Sanskrit, Mahalaya is made up of two words. Maha and Aalaya. Which means- the great abode of the goddess. On this day, Mother Durga arrives on earth. Mahalaya 2024: According to the Drik Panchang, the Amavasya date of the month of Ashwin is falling on October 02. Mahalaya will be celebrated on this day. This year, in Sharadiya Navratri, Goddess Bhagwati will arrive on a palanquin and depart on an elephant.
Navratri 2024 Calendar: This year Sharadiya Navratri will be of full nine days. In the nine days of Navratri, nine different forms of Goddess Bhagwati are worshiped including Maa Shailputri, Maa Brahmacharini, Maa Chandraghanta, Maa Kushmanda, Maa Skandamata, Maa Katyayani, Maa Kalratri, Maa Mahagauri, Maa Siddhidatri.
