Varanasi, Amrit Vichar: This time the scene was somewhat special in Goswami Tulsidas Akhara located in Tulsi Ghat, Varanasi on Nagpanchami of Sawan. Traditionally, wrestling in men’s akhadas is now showing strong presence of daughters. The girls also participated enthusiastically in the riot organized on the occasion of Nagpanchami on Tuesday and impressed everyone with their stakes.
Started eight years ago: National female wrestler Kashish Yadav said that the girls were allowed to practice in the arena about eight years before the efforts of the Mahant of Sankat Mochan Temple and the head of the Akhara. Since then this change has been continuously moving forward.
National medal winners are getting ready from Kashi: Kashish herself has participated in wrestling at the national level six times. He said that many girls from this arena have won medals in state and national level competitions, and some are now preparing to represent India at the international level.
They also practice with boys: The girls here practice not only among themselves, but also with boys. This increases their confidence and provides better preparation for the match. Kashish says, “Girls are no longer behind in any field, just needs and cooperation.”
Swaminath Akhara is becoming an inspiration center: This arena located at Tulsi Ghat is now also known as Swaminath Akhara and has become a center of inspiration for women. On the occasion of Nagpanchami, the spectators gathered here encouraged the girls and there was an atmosphere of enthusiasm throughout the riot.
