Holika Dahan Mythology –
The story of Holika Dahan is considered associated with the devotee of Lord Vishnu. According to the legend, Prahlad’s father was Rakshasaraj Hiranyakashyap, who was considered to be the greatest enemy of Lord Vishnu and he considered himself as God. He ordered everyone in his kingdom that no one would worship God.
But his son Prahlada was an ardent devotee of Lord Vishnu. When Hiranyakashipu saw his son worshiping God, he decided to punish his own son. Hiranyakashipu wanted to hurt Prahlad many times, but Lord Vishnu always supported Prahlada.
In the end, the tyrannical king Hiranyakashyap sought help from his sister Holika. Holika had the boon that she could not burn the fire, so Holika took Prahlad in her lap and sat in the fire. But by the grace of Lord Vishnu, Holika was consumed in that fire and Prahlad survived. Since then, the festival of Holika Dahan is celebrated as the victory of good over evil. Holi is celebrated on the next day of Holika Dahan.
