How is Lord Ganesha called Gajanan?
According to mythology, once Nandi made a mistake in following some order of Goddess Parvati. After which the Goddess thought that there should be someone who would only follow her orders. Then Goddess Parvati made a child’s figure from her Ubtan and put life in it. After this, Goddess Parvati went for a bath and asked the child to guard outside. Goddess Parvati had ordered the child not to let anyone in without her permission. When Lord Shiva’s Ganas came, the child stopped them from going inside. After this, when Lord Shiva himself came, the child did not let him in either. When the child did not let him in, Lord Shiva got angry and he separated the child’s head from the body. Seeing all this, Goddess Parvati got angry and asked to bring her child back to life. Then Lord Shiva attached the head of an elephant to the child’s body. Since then Lord Ganesha also came to be known as Gajanan.
Parshuram had broken one tooth of Ganeshji-
Lord Shankar and Mother Parvati were resting in their room. They said not to let anyone come. Then Parshuram ji came to meet Lord Shiva. But Ganesh ji refused to meet Lord Shiva. Parshuram ji got angry at this and he broke one tooth of Ganesh ji with his axe. Since then Lord Ganesha is called Ekadanta.
