Moti Dungri Temple is one of the most famous and revered temples in Jaipur, visited by thousands of devotees daily. This temple holds a very important place in the hearts of the people of the city. The history of Moti Dungri Temple is 400 years old. It is believed that in the 17th century, when the king of Mewar was returning home, he was carrying the idol of Lord Ganesha on a bullock cart. He announced that wherever the bullock cart stops first, he himself will build a grand temple of Lord Ganesha. The bullock cart stopped at the foot of Moti Dungri and this place became the location of the temple. The responsibility of building the temple was entrusted to Seth Jai Ram Paliwal and Mahant Shiv Narayan, who built this temple in four years and it is worth mentioning that it was completed in the year 1761.
A palace-like complex was built at that place for the son of Maharaja Madho Singh (Raja Madho Singh) and a temple was built inside it. The surrounding palace is not open to visitors as it is a private property but the temple is open to all. This temple is named Moti Dungri because it is built under the Moti Dungri hill. Let us tell you that the complex of Moti Dungri Temple (Moti Dungri Temple, Jaipur) is very large and extends for 2 kilometers. Its building has three special domes which symbolize the three major religions of India. The walls of the temple are finely carved and marble stones have also been used. The walls of the temple attract the attention of devotees and tourists. The temple is decorated with scenes from mythological stories which is the main center of beauty of the temple.
Special arrangements have also been made for the devotees to rest or sit after worshipping in the temple as it is believed that Lord Ganesha is highly pleased if the devotees spend some time in the temple premises after worshipping. A huge idol of Lord Ganesha in a sitting posture with his trunk on the left side graces the temple. Most of the idols of Lord Ganesha have his trunk on the right side and those with his trunk on the left side are considered very auspicious. The deep orange colour of the idol has a wonderful shine and the thick shiny black hair of the idol is also amazing. The head of the idol is adorned with a silver crown which is covered with gorgeous clothes and ornaments.
