The holy festival of Makar Sankranti was also celebrated on 14th January. On this day Lord Suryadev has entered Capricorn. In this month, there is a tradition of worshiping Lord Suryadev and Lord Vishnu and fasting. It is believed that if worship and fasting is done in the month of Magh, then Shri Hari fulfills all the wishes of the devotees. Taking bath in Ganga in the month of Magh is also considered beneficial. In this month, by donating after taking bath in Ganga, ancestors get peace and God’s blessings.
It is considered best to recite Shrimadbhagvadgita in this month. Apart from this, worshiping Tulsi is also said to be beneficial. This month, blankets and warm clothes should be donated to the poor and needy. Also, donating black sesame, food, clothes and money is also considered auspicious this month.
