How did Samvat begin
The story of creating a calendar (Samvat) is related to Bharathari’s brother Vikramaditya. It is believed that a new era was started during the reign of King Vikramaditya, which is known as Vikram Samvat. According to folklore, when King Bharathari renounced Rajpat and adopted Vairagya, Vikramaditya started this era in honor of his brother. It is also said in some stories that Vikramaditya inspired Bharathari to start this era.
