Jammu. Jammu Divisional Commissioner Ramesh Kumar directed the officials to complete all the works being done in Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas before the Amarnath Yatra by June 20. An official gave this information on Saturday. Divisional Commissioner Kumar and Inspector General of Police (IGP) Bhim Sen Tutti visited the main base camp (Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas) of devotees visiting the cave temple located at an altitude 3,880 meters in South Kashmir Himalayas and reviewed the preparations.
The pilgrimage will start from July 3 at the traditional 48 km long Pahalgam Marg (Anantnag district) and a comparative 14 km small but difficult Baltal Marg (Ganderbal District). The first batch of devotees will leave from Jammu on July 2. An official spokesperson said that the two officials assessed the progress and quality of the work related to the journey and held a meeting with the concerned departments and reviewed the stay of the devotees, public facilities and overall security preparations.
Kumar instructed all concerned departments to complete the necessary works including the establishment of the control room on time, while the IGP Tutti emphasized the need to travel to the official convoy of the devotees and ensure the prescribed time. The fire and emergency service departments were specifically asked to conduct fire fighting exercises around the anchor (collective kitchen), install fire fighting equipment and CCTV cameras.
The Health Department was instructed to ensure the availability of medicines, medical equipment, ambulances and adequate employees at passenger residence and other major places. The Chief Engineer of the Public Works Department was asked to construct security posts and set up anchor shed on the recommendation of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). The spokesperson said that Jammu Municipal Corporation Commissioner Devansh Yadav has been instructed to deploy sanitation workers, establish adequate toilets and start silt with the nearby canal.
