Jiutiya fast is observed on Ashvin Krishna Paksha Ashtami. On this day, mothers observe fast for the long life of their children. The fast starts on Ashtami Tithi and then it is broken on Navami. On this day, women observe Nirjala fast. The whole day is spent without food and water. In this fast, Jimutvahan is worshipped and a story is heard. The method and date of celebrating it is also different in different regions. In Mithila, this fast starts a day before i.e. from Saptami Tithi. On this day, women perform Sargahi-Othgan. Then they observe fast on Ashtami and observe Sargahi the next day. According to Mithila and Banaras Panchang, this year Jivitputrika (Jiutiya) fast is falling on different days. Those who follow Mithila Panchang will observe Jiutiya fast on 24 September, while those who follow Banaras Panchang will fast on 25 September.
Pandit Shambhunath Jha, an expert on Mithila Panchang, says that according to Mithila Panchang, this year Saptami Tithi is till 6.06 pm on 24 September. Nahai Khay will be on 23 September. On 24 September, women will do Sargahi Othgan in the morning and Ashtami will be till 5.05 pm on Wednesday, 25 September. In such a situation, the fasting people will break their fast after 5.15 pm on 25 September.

According to Banaras Panchang, Jiutiya Vrat will not be on 24th but on 25th September. According to this, importance has been given to Udaya Tithi. Astrologer PK Yug tells that according to Kashi Panchang, Ashtami will be on 25th September till 4.56 pm on Wednesday. Saptami Tithi is ending after 4.55 pm on Tuesday. After this Ashtami Tithi will start. Therefore, the devotees will observe Nirjala, Nirahar fast on 25th September.
