This fast is very special for married women. On the day of Karva Chauth, women keep a strict fast and worship Karva Mata duly.
On Karva Chauth, a waterless fast is observed throughout the day and in the evening, worship is done with sixteen adornments and the story of the fast is heard. This year, the fast of Karva Chauth will be observed on Sunday, 20th October. On this day, during the puja, one must recite the Vrat Katha. Doing this brings happiness in married life and also gives full results of the Vrat Puja.
Story of Karva Chauth fast-
According to the popular story, once upon a time a Brahmin lived in a village with his 7 sons and a daughter. The daughter’s name was Veeravati. When Veeravati became eligible for marriage, the family members married her. When Karva Chauth arrived, Veeravati fasted but due to hunger and thirst she fainted.
Seeing the sister unconscious, the brothers broke her fast by shining torch light from behind the tree. As soon as Veeravati had food, her husband died. When Devraj Indra’s wife came to earth at night, she saw such a condition of Veeravati. He asked Veeravati to observe Karva Chauth fast again next time. Due to the effect of this fast, Veeravati’s husband came back to life.
