Chardham Yatra has special significance in Hinduism. This journey is considered to be the medium of attainment of salvation and freedom from sins. Every year millions of devotees go out on a difficult Himalayan journey of Uttarakhand to visit Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath. The journey began in 2025 from April 30, and so far thousands of people have seen God. But recently an ancient prediction associated with Skanda Purana has put the devotees into contemplation – will these holy pilgrimage sites in future?
Mysterious prediction of Skanda Purana
According to the famous Jyotishacharya Dr. Arvind Mishra, it is mentioned in Skanda Purana that pilgrimage centers like Kedarnath and Badrinath will become invisible at the end of Kali Yuga. That is, when the degradation of religion is at its peak, then these divine sites will cover their power and get out of reach of ordinary people.
Shloka –
“Kaliyug Kshye Get Badri Narayanam Hari.
Upsit Himvat Kuntikanth Sathita Shiva:॥ “
This means that in the last period of Kali Yuga, Lord Narayana will depart from the Himalayas and Lord Shiva will also live at some other place except Kedarbhoomi.
Changing thinking towards fashion from faith
Pandit Arvind Mishra says that today the pilgrimage has become only a tourism experience. Where earlier people used to leave for pilgrimage from Shraddha, now people go there to make a reel for ‘walking’ and social media. Instead of reverence for the deities, now showing off and showy religion has come. This is the reason that the importance of holy pilgrimage centers is decreasing and the balance of nature is also deteriorating. All this indicates the situation of Kali Yuga when religion and devotion will fall.
Where will God be in future?
According to Skanda Purana, when Badrinath and Kedarnath become invisible, the “future Badri” and “Bhavishya Kedar” pilgrimage centers will rise. Only those devotees will be able to reach there, within which there will be true faith and tenacity. The statue of Lord Narasimha Dev located in Joshimath is gradually diluted. It is believed that when this hand is broken, the path of Badrinath will be closed. This phenomenon is considered a symbol of the end of the existence of Badri Dham.
2013 disaster and recent events: Are these warnings?
Many Dharmacharyas consider the severe flood in Kedarnath in 2013 as the beginning of this prediction. Recently, people are also considering the death of devotees in the helicopter accident in Rudraprayag on 15 June 2025 as a spiritual warning. Natural disasters, global warming and uncontrolled masses on pilgrimages are showing that we are not respecting pilgrimage sites.
