The worship of Goddess Shakti is a special place in Indian Sanatan Dharma. Many forms of Maa Shakti are worshiped across the country. According to the Devi Purana and other texts, the Shaktipeeths were established wherever the organs of Maa Sati fell. A total of 51 Shaktipeeths are considered in India, but 9 of these Shaktipeeth are considered very famous and centers of reverence. Let’s know in detail about these 9 major Shaktipeeths.

1. Vaishno Devi Shaktipeeth (Jammu and Kashmir)

The temple of Maa Vaishno Devi, situated on the Trikuta hills of Jammu, is one of the most famous pilgrimage sites in the country. Here mother is worshiped in Vaishnavi form. Every year millions of devotees travel hard to see Virajit Maa in Pindi form. It is believed that Mother Vaishno Devi fulfills every wish of the devotees.

2. Kamakhya Devi Shaktipeeth (Assam)

Kamakhya Shaktipeeth, located on the Nilanchal mountain in Guwahati (Assam), is a very mysterious and powerful place. Here the vagina of Maa Sati fell. Kamakhya Devi is considered the goddess of fertility and fertility. Every year at the time of Ambubachi fair, millions of seekers and tantric gather here for Tantric Sadhana.

3. Kalighat Shaktipeeth (Kolkata)

Maa Kali’s temple located in Kalighat, Kolkata is prominent among Shaktipeeths. Here the finger of Mother Sati’s right leg fell. Kali Mata is worshiped in both terrible and compassionate forms. This Shaktipeeth is famous for devotees as Sankat Mochan site.

4. Jwalamukhi Shaktipeeth (Himachal Pradesh)

The Jwalamukhi Temple located in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh is a special amazing Shaktipeeth. Here fire flames automatically ignite for centuries without fuel. It is believed that mother Sati’s tongue fell here. Devotees believe that Jwalamukhi Mata Sakshat is a fire form.

5. Chintpurni Shaktipeeth (Himachal Pradesh)

Chintpurni Devi Temple is also located in Una district of Himachal Pradesh. The feet of Maa Sati fell here. ‘Chintpurni’ means – who are going to be worried. Prayer in the court of the mother with true mind prevents all sorrows and concerns.

6. Hinglaj Mata Shaktipeeth (Balochistan, Pakistan)

Although this Shaktipeeth is in Balochistan, Pakistan today, it has great importance for Hindu devotees. It is believed that the forehead of Mother Sati fell here. Hinglaj Mata is also known as ‘Hinglaj Shakti’ and ‘Chandi Devi’. Even when it is difficult to reach here, the devotees try to see the mother.

7. Mahalakshmi Shaktipeeth (Kolhapur, Maharashtra)

The Mahalakshmi Temple located in Kolhapur is one of the most revered sites of the Goddess. Mother Sati’s eyes fell here. Mahalakshmi Devi is considered to be the presiding deity of wealth, opulence and prosperity. This Shaktipeeth is particularly famous for the wishes of economic progress and happiness and prosperity.

8. Brahmarambha Shaktipeeth (Srisailam, Andhra Pradesh)

Brahmarambha Shaktipeeth is the major Shakti Sthal of South India, located near Mallikarjuna Jyotirlinga of Srisailam. Mother Sati was strangled here. Worshiping Brahmambha Devi is also considered extremely important for tantric practice. This place is the center of worship of both Shiva and Shakti.

9. Shripuram Shaktipeeth (Tripura)

The temple of Tripureshwari Devi located in Ujjayantpur (now Shripur) in Tripura is an ancient Shaktipeeth. Mother Sati’s right leg was dropped here. Tripureshwari Maa is considered the god of the three worlds. Special puja and rituals are organized here on the occasion of Navratri.
