Amrit thoughts: Koneshwar Mahadev Temple of Chowk is associated with the Ramayana period. Priest Pandit Diwakar Pandey told that Koneshwar Mahadev Temple was established by Laxman ji on the banks of Ganga Gomti river. On the coast was the ashram of Kaundinya Rishi, which is mentioned in many ancient scriptures.
Lakshman ji, who went to leave the forest to mother Sita, stayed in this ashram located on the banks of Gomti. Kaundinya Rishi asked Laxman ji to anoint and worship the Shivling installed in the ashram. This fact is also mentioned in Valmiki Ramayana. Shivalinga, the center established in the ashram by Kaundinya Rishi, was earlier known as Kundinyeshwar Mahadev.
Shivling did not change its place
The priest told that Shivalinga is in the middle in any temple but Baba is sitting here in the corner. It is said that many times devotees and priests tried to establish the Shivling of God in the middle, but the Shivling used to change its place to the old place.
The Shivalinga installed in his ashram by Kaundinya Rishi became known as Kaundinyeshwar Mahadev, who later became famous as Koneshwar Mahadev in simple language.
