Lakshmi-Ganesh Pujan: What to do with the old idol after Diwali puja, know the complete method

Lucknow, Amrit Vichar: The festival of Diwali is celebrated with great pomp across the country on Kartik Amavasya. Every year during Diwali, a new idol of Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha is worshipped. After the puja, the idol remains installed at the place of worship for a year. This sequence happens every year. But in such a situation, some question might arise in the minds of many people that what happens to that old idol. Why will a new idol be brought and worshiped again next year? Let us know what will be done with that old idol.

If you buy idols made of metals like gold, silver or brass, then it is not necessary to bring new idols and worship them every year. Rather, the same old idol is purified with Ganga water and worshipped. But if your Ganesh-Lakshmi idols are made of clay, then they are worshiped in a new idol every year on Diwali.

Old idols of Lakshmi and Ganesha made of clay must be worshiped on the day of Diwali. After this, the new idol should be installed at the same place where the old idol was installed. Old idols should be immersed in a river or pond.

If your idols are eco-friendly, then you can immerse the idols at home by filling water in a bucket or tub. After this the idols gradually dissolve in water naturally. After the idol dissolves, put this water and soil in a pot at home.

Monday and Friday are considered auspicious days for immersing the idols. Immersion should not be done on Tuesday. Immersing the idol even after sunset is prohibited. Also keep in mind that avoid keeping old idols in a dirty place or under a tree. This should not be done.
