By pleasing their deity Lord Shiva, the sages and saints attain the blessings of Lord Shiva by doing Hathayoga. It is believed that the sages and saints, in order to gain control over their senses and mind, perform various types of Hathayoga and cause pain to their body. They forcefully control their mind. They try to get the blessings of Aaradhya or to achieve some special achievement. According to Sanatan tradition, a total of four stubbornness are described. Which includes Rajhath i.e. stubbornness of a king, Balhath i.e. stubbornness of a child, Sthrihath i.e. stubbornness of a woman and Yogahath i.e. stubbornness done by sages.
Most of the sages and saints perform a fire penance in the month of Jeth in which the smoke of five kandas is blown, in the middle of which the sadhus sit and remain engrossed in penance.
