Mahakumbh Nagar. Maha Kumbh Mela started from Monday with Paush Purnima bath. According to the fair official, till 8 am in the morning more than 60 lakh people took a dip of faith in Sangam and Ganga. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath welcomed all the devotees, saint mahatmas, Kalpavasis and visitors and extended best wishes for the first bath of Mahakumbh.
He described Mahakumbh as a symbol of India’s spiritual and cultural dignity. Fair Officer Vijay Kiran Anand said that till now more than 60 lakh people have taken a dip in Ganga and Sangam. Throwing light on the importance of bathing in the Ganga on Paush Purnima, Tirtha priest Rajendra Mishra said that bathing in the Ganga on Paush Purnima, on the 15th day of Shukla Paksha of the month of Paush, removes all kinds of sins.
He said that along with Paush Purnima, the month long Kalpvas also started from today. During this period, people take bath in the Ganges three times a day for a month and lead a kind of ascetic life and remain engrossed in the devotion of God. Earlier, on Saturday and Sunday together, more than 85 lakh people took bath in the Ganga.
