Lucknow, Amrit Vichar: The movement of the Sun from the Tropic of Capricorn to the Tropic of Cancer is called Uttarayan. According to the scriptures, Uttarayan is the day of the gods. The entry of Sun into Capricorn is called Makar Sankranti. After sunrise in the morning of Makar Sankranti, there is importance of bathing and donating at holy places during Punyakal. During this Punyakal, bathing, sun worship, chanting, rituals and donations are done. On this occasion, donation of black sesame, jaggery, khichdi, blanket, wood, clothes etc. has special significance. When the Sun God comes out of Sagittarius and enters Capricorn, then the festival of Makar Sankranti is celebrated. This time Makar Sankranti is on 14 January.

Astrologer SS Nagpal tells that according to Chintaharan Panchang, this year the Sun will enter Capricorn on January 14 at 8.55 am. On this day, there is a combination of Vishkumbh Yoga and Punarvasu Nakshatra, the Moon will be in Cancer. With the Sun in Capricorn, it will be auspicious to eat chuda-curd and sesame seeds after bathing and donating during the holy period. During the auspicious time, performing ‘Homa of sesame seeds’ after bathing and donating bangles, sesame seeds, sweets, khichdi ingredients, warm clothes and consuming it brings happiness and prosperity in the house. On January 14, the auspicious time will be from 8:55 am to 5:43 pm.
