Delhi. Tightening security arrangements for the smooth operation of the Kavad Yatra in the national capital, about 50 companies (more than 5000 personnel) of more than 5,000 Delhi Police personnel and paramilitary forces have been deployed and drones have also been deployed. According to the police, additional investigation has been initiated on the major routes through which Kanwari is likely to pass and the routes have been changed according to the requirement.
The police officer said, ‘The pilgrimage will continue till July 22 and will end on Shivaratri. We are in coordination with paramilitary forces and home guards, which will monitor sensitive areas through CCTV surveillance and drone patrolling. ‘ He said that special safety measures have also been planned for the scheduled Kanwar camps and temple areas, where pilgrims will rest and do rituals respectively.
According to the official, 774 places have been identified to set up camps across the city and 374 Kawad camps have already been allowed. Police sources said that more than 150 additional camps are waiting for final approval. An official said, ‘The main focus will be on maintaining law and order, running the traffic smoothly and providing immediate assistance to the pilgrims. PCR vans, quick action team (QRT) and ambulances have been deployed at important places. ”
Police say that major roads like National Highway (NH)-1, NH-9 and major roads passing through external, north-east, eastern and Shahdara districts are being monitored strictly. Pilgrims coming with Kavad (vessels adorned with Ganga water) in pedestrians and vehicles will be allowed to enter from the designated places.
The official said, “To control the crowd of Kanwari, Delhi Police has released a list of their entry routes, including Ghazipur Border, Anand Vihar, Bhopura, Apsara, Maharajpur, Loni Border and ISBT Kashmiri Gate. Specific roads like Wazirabad to Bhopura, GT Road and Loni Road will also work as major Kavad routes.
The administration has also appealed to the citizens to avoid the routes prescribed for the movement of Kanwari. Emergency services and essential vehicles will be ease and special helpline has been introduced. The official said that senior officers of Delhi Police have directed the Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCP) of all 15 districts to be present on the spot and ensure coordination with the civil administration, especially to deal with emergency and control the movement of the crowd.
